In the story Pudd'nhead Wilson, Tom Driscoll has grown to become a very terrible person. He treats Chambers with disgust as well as he does towards his mother who he does not know, Roxy. Things are getting bad and Tom wants to sell Chambers down the river. Tom's father, just before he dies, buys out Chambers to make sure that it does not happen. Tom's father dies and Tom goes off to Yale at the age of nineteen. When Tom finally comes back, he is well educated, more mannerly and polite. He does not plan on having an occupation and plans to inherit everything his uncle received form his father.
