For the past week we have been reading short stories about tricksters. In this story we read about the ultimate trickster Hop-Frog. Driven by anger fueled by the abuse of the king against him and the girl he love's, he plans to humiliate, expose the king and his followers for their cruel actions, and then to kill them. Hop-Frog is like every other trickster we have encountered in our readings. He is sly, silver tongued, and cruel. He hides his murderous motives deep under his flattery of the king. He is driven to the point of madness by the king and has the ultimate revenge. I liked the story because it was short and to the point. Poe left you to imagine the story more than others because he doesn't use many descriptive words. The book is twisted, dark, and unexpected. It made it very entertaining
Hop-Frog
Hop-Frog is a story of revenge and how when it all builds up the most extreme can come out. Hop-Frog's motive was the king disrespecting Tripetta, the only one who that Hop-Frog cares for. Hop-Frog gets the finally laugh in this story as he and Tripetta contrived an escape plan after his anger gets the best of him.
"I now see distinctly what matter these maskers are. They are a great king and his seven privy councilors a king who does not scruple to strike a defenseless girl and his seven councilors who abet him in outrage. As for myself, I am simply Hop-Frog, the Jester and this is my last jest." This quote in my point of view makes this story and expressed Jester's true feelings after the incident with Tripetta.
Hop-Frog masquerade
This story was very interesting and unique. The author had to have contrived the plot for it was very clever. In this short story, the author scrutinizes of a King whom has many servants and jokers. One of his jokers is a man by the name of Hop-Frog. One day, the King forced Hop-Frog to drink wine even though he didn't want to. The King continued to force the wine upon him until Hop-Frog was driven to the point of tears. From that point Hop-Frog swore his revenge. During one of the King's masquerades in a prodigious room, Hop-Frog interrupts it. He sees that the doors are locked and he lights the King on fire. Soon there is a tumult and Hop-Frog escapes. In this story like many native American stories, the trickster got tricked.
Hop-Frog
In Hop-Frog it was a recipe for revenge since the beginning of the tale. The king had no respect for the jesters and made Hop-Frog drink the wine when he did not want to at all, it even brought him to tears. "Drink I say!". This quote shows how the king had no tolerance for the jester not following his directions and forced him unwillingly to drink the wine that he had no intention of drinking, especially on his birthday. This story reminds me of some of the previous Native-American tales we read because of the trickery intertwined in the story. Also, just like the Native-American tales the trickster ends up getting tricked in the end.
Hop- Frog
In this story there is a lot of crazy characters and the plot is to get revenge. This story is a revenge tale because during the whole story "Hop- Frog" is constantly trying to criticize the characters because he does not like his nickname. Also the narrator criticizes the jester for humiliation of the king. The author really scrutinizes about how Hop-Frog is feeling. "I shall soon find out who they are" is a quote that really stands out and is my favorite because it tells us how the jester knows who it is the whole time. This story reminds me of a kid who has a weird name that doesn't like it so he takes his anger out on other people. This story was very exciting to read.
Hop-Frog
To be honest, I felt kind of sad for Hop-Frog. He had to deal with every kind of abuse set on to him by the king, but it was also very humorous. It is like a revenge tale mainly towards the end, where he and Trippetta contrived a plan and escape, never to be seen again, which is something of a good thing, because now the king has nothing to entertain him now that Hop-Frog has escaped from abuse. I feel that it was just word play and humorous that they named Hop-Frog's torturers the Ourang-Outangs, calling them orange gorilla's didn't help them on a seriousness test. I thought that it was hilarious how everyone in the king and his seven friends, the Oourang-Outangs, had everyone in a prodigious tumult, and had everyone laughing, but torturing Hop-Frog. I think my absolute favorite part was Hop-Frog and Trippetta escaping.
"It is supposed that Trippetta, stationed on the roof of the saloon, had been the accomplice of her friend in his fiery revenge, and that forever, they effected their escape to their own country; for neither was ever seen again"
Most of this story reminds me of an 8 way chain pulling on whatever was intertwined in the middle, but it also reminds me of one of those scenes in a movie or game where the villain would laugh in a stereotypical way in front of a fire. This story, all in all, was hilarious and creepy.

Hop-Frog
This is a revenge tale about a tormented slave-jester who searches for a way to punish the king who has enslaved him. Hop Frog is especially unstable because of the alcohol that the king forced him to consume when he brew his scheme to kill the king. The jester tricks the king and his seven assistants into wearing flammable costumes and chains them together. Ultimately he suspends the chain of the eight Ourang-Outangs in midair and lights them on fire. After killing them he makes an escape and is never seen again. The narrator is criticizing the king for being a selfish, greasy, snob and shows this through his treatment of Hop-Frog and his Dwarf friend. To show the king's cruelty, Poe writes, "At last with out uttering a syllable, he pushed her violently from him and threw the contents of the brimming goblet into her face." This reminds me of terrorist attacks because terrorists feel that they are being mistreated and abused by other people, fueled by their craze and anger, they often show their feeling by attacking people that represent what they are angry at.
Hop Frog
In this story the jester, Hop-Frog, lets his anger get the best of him. Hop-Frog is often laughed at for his size and only cares for one person, Trippetta. When the King pushes Trippetta, Hop-Frog realizes he has to get rid of the king by killing him.
"I know see distinctly what matter these maskers are. They are a great king and his seven privy-councilors-a king who does not scruple to strike a defenseless girl, and his seven councilors who abet him in outrage. as for myself, I am simply Hop-Frog, the jester- and this is my last jest."
This is a story like none that i have never read.
In the story "Hop-Frog", the jester is pushed to insanity by a king who has forced him to be a jester in his court. He is pushed over the edge by the king not calling him his name and making him do things just because the king knows he does not like it. He has his revenge by tying the king and all of his men together and suspending them in the air on fire. Edgar Allan Poe's style in this story is imitable as he does what he does best and describes this mans descent into madness. I personally thought the way Edgar A. Poe described the kings derision towards his servants very well as he really makes the king look like a bad guy using terms like, "tyrant" to describe him. The events of this story remind me of the people who introverts and let anger build up inside of them until it is unhealthy and then they may do something as irrational as a mass murder like the incident at Virginia Tech.

Hop Frog
This story was really good and was seen as a revenge tale because the king and his men treated him so poorly because he had a bad gait and he still stood his ground. Hop Frog had a plan of his own when he tells them to dress up as chained orangutans to the masquerade and sets them on fire. The narrator constantly criticizes the barbarous king and his men with their manners treating the jester and the woman. "I am Hop-Frog, the jester, and this is my last jest." This was my favorite quote from the story after he killed the king and his men. This reminds me of an underdog story that is common in many stories and movies and how the little weak abused comes out on top like in David and Goliath.
I enjoyed this story very much it was so deceiving and creepy which made it so good. It is a revenge tail because he puts a lot of detail into the critizm he put into them. hop Frog wants revenge because he hates when people call him hop frog. So he wants to get back at them. And the jester tricked them all into critizing themselves. The narrator critiszes the jester for humiliation the king. My favorite quote is " I shall soon find out who they are". this shows that the Jester knew the whole time were they were. This reminds me of a fake fighting scene.
hop-frog
In this story, there is massive revenge brewing the whole time. In the beginning, the king humiliated Hop Frog and hit his girl, but then the jester tricked them into humiliating themselves. The narrator criticizes the king for humiliating the Jester and making him drink wine, even though he cried while doing it. "I shall soon find out who they are.". This is my favorite quote because it shows that the Jester knew the whole time who they were, but still fakes in order to humiliate them. This reminds me of when a fake hero tries to defeat a fake monster, knowing that he will defeat the monster, he still knows that the crowd doesn't.

I think that the Tell-Tale heart was a riveting tale of the inside of a wary mad-man's mind. Even though i have read the story plenty of times, it seems as though I pick up something new every time I read. Po is a master of putting an image in your brain by excellent storytelling and portraying. He vehemently portrays the messed up mind of a killer. Very good story.

The Tell-Tale Heart
I always love reading story's like this one it gives me the chills just reading it. Its a suspenseful book about a killer. One quote that really appealed to me was when the narrator was trying to comfort himself, "It is nothing but the wind in the chimney; it is only a mouse crossing the floor" or "it is merely a cricket which has made a single chirp." This was a very good book that had me on the edge of my seat the whole time.
the tell tale heart was a very suspenseful story. in this story we are looking at things through the killers point of view which is very rare to see in a story like this. poe must have been pretty crazy to have thought of this. in conclusion this was a good surprising story with a twist ending your sure to like.
It was a good tale because it showed how guilt can get the best of you. It is constantly suspenseful and keeps you interested the whole way through. Edgar is crazy, although he keeps stating that he is sane throughout the story.
The Tell Tale Heart
I enjoyed this story and it has been in my curriculum for about two years now. Every time i read this book i enjoy it. I like how the story was narrated by the killer himself so we can get a different perspective on the story. The presence of suspense in the beginning was very appealing and drew you into the story. I enjoyed this short story and felt it was a book most people should read.
I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever.
Tell-Tale Heart
This story is VERY full of suspense. The constant vexing state of the main character and his psychological trouble and warfare made it very interesting and very easy to get into. He was so guilty, he hid the body itself under a scantling in the house. The suspense in the end, you can legitimately feel every single emotion he's going through. You can feel every ounce of rage, anger, deep guilt, along with every single one of his senses. You can hear and feel about everything he's going through in this entire story. He couldn't take it and the rage had built up and BOOM. He snapped and lost all mental control over himself. This story is so good, I don't think I've seen or read anything like this. The sagacity of Edgar Allan Poe is something to be truly reckoned with. This story is one of the best I've ever read and honestly, I can't see nearly anything compare.
"And now again, hark! Louder! Louder! Louder! Louder!--
'Villains, dissemble no more! I admit the deed! Tear up the planks! Here, here!. It is the beating of his hideous heart!'"

the tell tale heart
I thought this story was very entertaining and was also filled with a lot of action. It was a good tale because it had a great plot and gave lots of detail. the story was very intense because the way the narrator explained what he was hearing such as the heart beat was getting louder and louder. Edgar Allan Poe is a great author and relates to more of a vampire story. It reminds me of an old vampire movie where the vampire comes back from the dead and causes terror. A good quote is "It was open-wide, wide-open, and I grew furious as I gazed upon it."
Tell-Tale Heart
I have read this story three years during my education and I think it is one of Edgar A Poe's best stories. The story is good because it lets you into the mind of a murderer. The story has descriptive terms that really make it worth reading like " there came to my ears a low, dull, quick sound such as a watch makes when enveloped in cotton". It is one of my favorite stories that i have read in school and it has earned its place in the horror story hall of fame for sure.
Tell-Tale Heart
The thrilling tale kept me on the edge of my seat even the third time I was reading it. The Tell-Tale heart describes the conscience of a man slowly eating away at him. The narrator is being questioned about an old man's death when suddenly he begins to lose his mind, as he hears the old mans heartbeat from underneath him. "Yet the sound increased-and what could I do? It was a low, dull, quick sound-much such a sound as a watch makes when enveloped in cotton" said the Narrator. This story is similar to an episode of Sponge-Bob Squarepants where the main character Sponge-Bob hides something under the floor boards and all he can hear are squeaky boots getting louder and louder. Soon enough he had all he could take and confessed to where the item was the he had hid.

Tell Tale Heart
This classic story by Edgar Allen Poe was like none that i have read before. It takes you through the planning and suspense the killer encounters. The part that vexed me was how the killer would never admit to going mad. He often said, "Would a mad man be so wise?" This great story will be enjoyed by all who read it.
The Tell Tale Heart
The Tell Tale Heart is known as one of best horror stories in American literature. I agree with this because it creates a suspenseful atmosphere in book. Poe used a combination of advance vocabulary and creative thinking to make the story horrifying. I think that the vexed eye very well. It made me think about the vision of the eye and it was terrifying.
"He shrieked once-- once only. In an instant I dragged him to the floor, and pulled the heavy bed over him. "
Tell Tale Heart
This story was amazing because it gave such good details, it really showed how a story should be read. it really showed the view of the killer then the rather then the old man, this is just another great piece from a all time amazing author. this is like none other i have ever seen written. It's not like any other of his books, its really just an amazing thrill filled book.
"It is impossible to say how first the idea entered my brain; but once conceived, it haunted me day and night"
Tell Tale Heart
This was a good story about murder and guilt. What makes this story captivating is the inner dialogue of the murderer. An example of this carefully crafted dialogue comes from the introduction, "True--nervous --very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say that I am mad? The disease had sharpened my senses --not destroyed --not dulled them. Above all was the sense of hearing acute. I heard all things in the heaven and in the earth. I heard many things in hell. How, then, am I mad? Hearken! and observe how healthily --how calmly I can tell you the whole story. "The man makes no attempt to stifle his thoughts which helps develop the story making it unique to any other story I have heard.
Tell-Tale Heart
I thought this was a terrific tale by Edgar Allen Poe. The best part of this story for me was the suspense building up as the narrator slowly broke down mentally. Also the narrator's dissimulation intrigued me. "No doubt I now grew very pale, but I talked more fluently and with a heightened voice." (pg. 13) As I read through the climax of the start it made my heart slowly race. I have yet to come across a story similar to the "Tell-Tale Heart". Personally it is one of my favorite stories.
Kyle M. presents the Tell Tale Heart
This story was different than any of the stories that I have previously read. It is a story about a guilty man who had to murder a man he deeply respected. This was a very good book because of how different it was then all other stories. The main contributing factor that made this a good story was that you got to see the perspective from the murderers eyes and mind. One story that this reminded me of was the pit and the pendulum. I say this because there is the same type of horror and suspense.
"Villains, dissemble no more! I admit the deed! Tear up the planks! Here, here! It is the beating of his hideous heart"
Tell Tale Heart
I think this story was very good and a great read. The story is good because it is the story behind the view of the killer rather then the old man. you knew the narrator was out of his mind when he said "I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever."It is also just another great piece of work from Edgar Allen Poe. This is a twist on things since it is behind the antagonist. This story is really like no other story I have read or movie I have scene.
