The house itself was very old and
desolate when narrator had first arrived. While the narrator was at the house with Roderick they create music and tell stories to each other. The Usher's sister was put under a coma and had thought to be dead. Towards the end of the novel the broken down house had started to slide down the hill into the lake. My favorite quote is "we painted and read together; or I listened, as if in a dream, to wild improvisations of his speaking guitar."
